The 600 runs allowed
They allowed the fewest in the entire West, and not narrowly: 81 runs clear of second place. The season was not carried by the bats.
Teams that win 100 games usually have a clear explanation. For the 2026 Dodgers it sat on the mound.
They allowed 600 runs. San Diego, second in the West, allowed 681. Arizona 730, San Francisco 760, Colorado 944. Put another way, the Dodgers conceded almost one run fewer every three games than their closest rival.
Yamamoto and a 0.87 WHIP
Yoshinobu Yamamoto's season is worth stopping on. He made 28 starts, threw 185 innings — comfortably the heaviest load on the staff — and did it with a 2.53 ERA.
But the figure that really lands is another: a 0.87 WHIP. That means he allowed fewer than one baserunner per inning. Our glossary calls anything under 1.10 elite; 0.87 sits well beneath that line.
Alongside it: 182 strikeouts against just 42 walks. A pitcher who dominates and gives nothing away.
Ohtani, in short doses
The other half of Shohei Ohtani was the staff's most efficient: a 1.79 ERA across 14 starts and 85.2 innings, with a 0.95 WHIP and 95 strikeouts.
It is a shorter sample than Yamamoto's, and that is worth saying plainly: 85 innings do not carry the same weight as 185. But while he was out there, nobody on the staff was harder to hit.
Tarik Skubal posted 2.61 across 10 starts and 62 innings. Tyler Glasnow finished at 3.53 over 13 outings, with 98 strikeouts in 74 innings — a very high rate.
The bullpen: four arms, 269 appearances
Where the team truly separated itself was in relief. Four pitchers cleared 60 appearances each, and all four finished with a low ERA:
- Alex Vesia — 72 games, 2.64
- Tanner Scott — 69 games, 2.69, with 25 saves
- Jack Dreyer — 67 games, 3.20
- Edgardo Henriquez — 61 games, 2.85
Having one good closer is common. Having four relievers who can pitch 60 times a year without falling apart is what turns small leads into wins, night after night. The team collected 46 saves.
What did not work
To be fair to the numbers, not everything held. Edwin Díaz finished with an 8.68 ERA despite recording 7 saves — a hard season for a reliever of his record, and the weakest point of a staff that was otherwise solid throughout.
And yet
This same staff allowed 21 runs across the four games of the championship series. It is the uncomfortable reminder that four games look nothing like 162: what held for six months was not enough for one series.
Full lines for every pitcher are on the pitching tab of the roster.
